CO₂ Laser Low Energy Output – Operation & Troubleshooting Guide

When a CO₂ laser shows low output energy or no visible treatment effect, the issue may come from incorrect operation settings, consumables, or internal components. This guide provides a step-by-step checklist to identify and resolve the problem.

1. Preliminary Safety Check

Ensure the machine is powered off before opening or inspecting internal components.

Always wear appropriate protective eyewear during operation.

Verify that the treatment handpiece is intact and free from cracks or burns.

2.Physical Cleaning and Troubleshooting (Priority)

1. Cleaning the Lens of the Galvanometer's Front-End Scaling Head

First, visually inspect the lens surface of the galvanometer's front-end scaling head to check for stains, dust, or minor scratches. If contaminated, gently wipe the lens in a single direction with a clean cotton swab dipped in 99% medical alcohol (avoid rubbing back and forth to damage the lens). For detailed wiping techniques, refer to the accompanying instructional video.

2. Cleaning the Interior of the Light Guide Arm

Remove the equipment's light guide arm and use clean compressed air (or a dedicated air blower) to gently blow through the internal channels of the light guide arm to remove accumulated dust, debris, and other impurities, preventing them from obstructing the light path.

3. Troubleshooting the Light Guide Arm

If the weak light problem persists after completing the above cleaning, try replacing the light guide arm with a spare one. After reinstalling, test the output power to determine if the original light guide arm is causing the energy loss.

4. Galvanometer Mirror Inspection (for "Incomplete Pattern Printing" Issues)

If the device also experiences "Incomplete Pattern Printing," further inspection of both galvanometer mirrors within the galvanometer head is necessary. Check for damage such as cracks, surface misalignme

nt, or coating loss. For more detailed inspection instructions, please refer to the galvanometer head documentation.

3.Operation Settings

Check Energy Parameters

Confirm that the power setting is within the recommended range for the treatment (e.g., 2–40 W depending on application).

Verify pulse mode, frequency, and duration are properly selected. Incorrect settings may result in low tissue interaction.

The steps are as follows:

1. Enter the backend settings interface.

Press and hold the "gear" icon in the lower-right corner of the device screen and enter the password "332211." Once verified, you will enter the backend settings interface.

2. Locate the corresponding wattage parameter.

The "Adj area" in the backend corresponds to the wattage level displayed on the device's main interface. For example, parameter "F30" directly corresponds to the "30W" level in dot matrix mode on the main interface. If you detect a wattage level that is weak, first locate the corresponding "Adj area" parameter.

3. Fine-tune the energy value.

"Power adj" is the energy control parameter for the corresponding wattage level. To increase the light output, you can increase this parameter slightly (it is recommended that adjustments should not exceed 5% at a time to avoid damage to the device due to overload). 4. Save and Verify
 After adjusting the parameters, click the "Save" button on the interface to save the current settings (unsaved adjustments will be lost after exiting).
 Exit the backend interface and return to the device's main interface in dot matrix mode. Start the light output test to verify that the target wattage level achieves the expected output.

Beam Focus

Ensure the handpiece or focusing lens is properly adjusted.

Incorrect focus distance can scatter the beam and reduce energy density.

4. Cooling System

Ensure water circulation is smooth, with no blockages.

Confirm water temperature is within the recommended range (usually 20–25°C).

Overheating may cause unstable output or reduced energy.

5. Gas Tube / RF Excitation Source

CO₂ Tube Life: The laser tube weakens over time (average lifespan: 2000–4000 hours).

If energy remains low after adjusting optics, the CO₂ tube or RF excitation source may require replacement.

6. Electrical System

Inspect connections between power supply and laser tube.

Ensure stable voltage input according to manufacturer specifications.

Faulty power supply can cause insufficient excitation of the CO₂ medium.

7. Functional Test

Reset parameters to factory defaults.

Select a standard test setting (e.g., 10 W, continuous mode, 1-second pulse).

Fire onto test paper/wood and observe:

Strong burn mark = normal function.

Weak or no mark = further internal inspection required.

8. When to Contact Technical Support

After cleaning optics and adjusting settings, if the output is still weak.

If the laser tube is near end-of-life.

If abnormal noises, sparks, or water leaks are detected.

Low energy output in a CO₂ laser can often be corrected by checking operation parameters, optics cleanliness, and beam alignment. If these do not restore performance, the issue is likely with the CO₂ tube, RF source, or power supply, and professional servicing is recommended
